School Ministry
We finished up all school activities and final exams on November 17. We know that God used us to impact the students and teachers, but we may not see the fruit until years later. God also blessed us with a donation of 150 New Testaments from Gideon’s in Santa Marta to give to our students! They were so happy and thankful to have their own Bible! We are still praying and making decisions as to what schools we will be working with next year.
Enciende El Fuego
We had our end-of-the-year Christmas party on November 11. We had games, a lesson, food, and gifts. The kids loved their gifts! Due to many generous donations from people in the U.S., we were able to provide gifts for about 60 kids (with money left over that will be used for the ministry). We are so thankful that Maria’s sister Nubia has taken charge of the Saturday events with the kids of Barrio 17 in our absence. We pray God continues to do great things in them and in that neighborhood!
We hope to do a lot more there when we return in January, including basketball class, Saturday events, visiting the sick, Bible classes, and mentoring/tutoring as well as take the steps to start an official foundation. Right now, we are just taking it one step at a time. God has blessed us with some donations for the ministry that will be put to good use!
Life and USA Visit
We are coming up on 8 months of marriage on the 13th! Before leaving Colombia, we got to witness the civil marriage of her sister Yomaira. God continues to unite us, challenge us through each other, and bless us. We are challenged to give freely to others, be patient, and walk by faith. We are excited for what God has in store for us in our remaining time in the U.S. and next year in Colombia.
We have been extremely blessed in our visit so far to the States. Since arriving here on November 19, God has poured out His grace and favor upon us. God seems to always back us up in whatever we do and desire. We are learning and seeing that God has control of everything and that His plans always happen. We celebrated Thanksgiving with our family and relatives (Maria’s first Thanksgiving experience). We also got to meet our new nephew Andrew, go on hikes, have a wedding reception, speak in my former high school’s chapel service, help at a Push The Rock homeschool PE class, and are planning a Holy Spirit night at our church here in PA.
Everyone has loved meeting and getting to know Maria, and Maria has felt very at-home here and is adjusting well to the culture! We are also hoping for snow for Maria. Maria is extremely blessed and thankful for the many people that have blessed her with clothing and many other things! We plan on being in the States through this year and then head to North Carolina for two week at the beginning of January and then finish up our time here in PA before leaving for Colombia on January 23!
In Christ,
Maria and Jonathan
