I am so excited to announce that I will be moving to South America in July! The Lord has opened the door for me to serve as a physical education teacher and coach at El Camino Academy, a Christian school located in Bogota, Colombia. It’s so cool to see how the desire God placed in my heart for longer-term foreign missions several years ago is coming to fulfillment in a few months. I have agreed to at least two years of service at ECA. My dream of doing missions involving sports and kids will soon be a reality!
Bogota is the capital city of 8 million people located within the Andes Mountains just north of the equator. It is a thriving, diverse, beautiful city with many opportunities for ministry. Despite its catholic history, it’s a city that needs to know Jesus Christ. It is a country of rich Spanish culture and history. Though God is sending me to Bogota, my primary ministry will be to the students at El Camino Academy (eca.edu.co) where I will have the opportunity to teach and disciple students (Colombians and missionary kids). I will be blessed to be in a strong community with other American, English-speaking, and Colombian teachers and staff. ECA has a big heart for discipleship and outreach to the community and city.
I am excited to see how the Lord will use me in Colombia! I am simply going as a willing servant, but I am expecting God to do big things. Even though this is an amazing opportunity, I know that it will be hard and that I will grow and be stretched a lot. I will certainly be forced to depend on the Lord more than ever before. It will be a new experience as I have never taught in a school setting. My prayer is that the Lord will use me to lead others to Him and deeper with Him and that He would use me to transform Bogota.
*This is a wonderful opportunity, but I can’t do it without you! I need a faithful team of people committed to praying for me and supporting me financially. ECA provides a small salary and health insurance, but my goal is to raise about $800-$1,000 a month as I am considered a missionary. I am trusting God will provide because He always does and because I know without a doubt this is where He wants me. I am certainly looking for one-time gifts, but I would love for people to commit on a monthly basis for at least one year. If just 32 people commit to $25 a month, then the $800 a month is covered. Give as the Lord leads you. No amount is too small!
*If you would like to support me financially, there are two options: 1. Visit firstloveinternational.com (my sending agency). Scroll down and click on the “Donate” button on the left-hand side of the page. Then you will need to register as a new user. Once you’ve done that and log in, then click on “Support a Specific Missionary or Ministry” and then select “Colombia” under the “Country” scroll-down option. Then just click on my name “Jonathan Snyder” and then choose whether to give a recurring or one-time gift. Then just fill in the information. You can donate via credit card, check, or bank draft.
2. You can also fill out the short support form (more specific payment options) and mail a check to the address on the form. Make check payable to First Love International and leave memo line blank. Make sure to include the form so they know to credit my account.
Thank you so much for your prayer and support and for partnering with me on this amazing adventure!
