Personal Update
The month of July has been a month of blessing and preparation for Maria and I. We had a great baby shower on July 6 with the presence of many of our friends and relatives. Mia is already loved by many here and in the USA. Maria and Mia are still doing great and although the due date is August 22, she really could arrive any day now. We are excited, anxious, and scared all at the same time! God continues to process us physically, emotionally, and spiritually as we wait.
Another update is that we are praying about changing churches as we have felt for some time the urge to “move on” from our current church. We want to serve and be a part of a smaller local church that is more of a “family” and has more of a focus of missions and evangelism and where we can grow more in leadership and ministry. We know that this is not an overnight decision and we are asking Him to show us His will. We visited a church this past Sunday and liked it and are praying about it.
We are asking God to show us what is His next step for us and to take us to the next level spiritually and in ministry. We trust that with Mia’s birth things will become a bit more clearer. We desire to equip ourselves better in God’s Word, leadership, etc. We need to keep surrendering our plans and desires to God and trusting Him with our future.
Ministry Update
We have had two great “missions months” in 17 de Diciembre and Divino Niño talking about missions and the spiritual climate in different regions of the world. In the coming weeks we will be focusing on the Middle East/10-40 Window, Africa and Asia. In September, we hope to teach the kids of 17 de Diciembre about being a warrior for Christ and basic spiritual warfare. On August 23, we will be starting a 12-week Evangelism Explosion discipleship program in Divino Niño. Maria and I and three others were trained to teach the program on July 18-19 and was a blessing to do the training with a group from a ministry in another city of Colombia.
Maria and I are proud of the growth of our Enciende El Fuego team as we have seen an increase in commitment to the ministry and greater personal commitment to God. We know this is a preparation for them to be used by God for greater things in their lives. While we haven’t directly seen a lot of big changes in the kids, we know that many seeds are being planted and that those seeds will eventually sprout and grow even larger. We invited local pastors/leaders of a church this past Saturday to visit the foundation and invite the kids to the church as many of them aren’t attending church. The church located in the neighborhood is no longer being used. God is calling us as a team to intercede more for the kids and their families!
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” - 2 Corinthians 4:18
In Christ,
Jonathan, Maria, and Mia
