The last three months since I accepted my new job in Bogota, Colombia have been quite the whirlwind. Preparation has mostly been mental and spiritual as I have experienced a lot of frustrations and “spiritual attacks.” I am beginning to feel the “weight” of what I am about to do. In the midst of the challenges, there have been joys and times when God fills me with His presence, peace, and excitement for what lies ahead. This is no ordinary several-week mission trip I am going on…this is the real deal. I am about to embark on the beginning of my calling in life as I go to South America for an indefinite amount of time. I know this is a gift from God, and I am honored He has chosen me for this mission. He is fulfilling the desire of my heart to go to the nations.
I have been learning and growing a lot through all of the waiting, preparation, and frustrations. I don’t have any expectations of what’s going to happen in Colombia, but I am expecting and know God will do big things through me. My desire is that He will simply use me to be a blessing and encouragement to others and use me to draw people to Himself. I know the Lord has anointed me for this mission, and I am excited to see how everything unfolds. The Lord is with me, so I have nothing to fear.
My support-raising goal for my first year is around $9,600 ($800 a month). I am currently at $6,330 (one-time donations and monthly pledges). I have purchased my plane ticket, but I also have needs for my visa ($295) and a possible two-week training/conference in New York from June 21-July 4 (around $1,500). My prayer team is continuing to grow as well. I have been encouraged and blessed by many people so far. I continue to make connections with people associated with Bogota. A young girl I used to teach at church had $7 to tithe, and she wanted to give $5 to the church and $5 to me for my mission. I also have a friend who is staying at his job he strongly dislikes so that he can help me and others with discounted flights. These are just a few of the blessings God has bestowed upon me so far. It's quite humbling.
I leave for this new adventure on Wednesday, July 9. I will be spending two weeks getting adjusted and exploring the city before teacher orientation starts. School starts in early August. I am so excited to be a gym teacher and a coach at El Camino Academy! I can’t wait to meet the students and staff and see what doors God opens up for relationships and ministry. Thank you for your prayers and your faithful support. We are a team, and I certainly can’t do any of this without you!
